Read the following texts.
Text 1:
Это моя квартира. Тут коридор, ванная и спальня. Там кухня, гостиная и ещё одна спальня.
Квартира находиться на третьем этаже. У квартиры нет балкона.
В гостиные стол, стул, кресло, шкаф и диван.
На столе находятся письмо, книга и пепельница. В шкафу только одежда.
На стене где диван находиться картина. На полу ковёр, а на потолке люстра.
Конечно, в комнате и окно. Здесь тоже телевизор и компьютер на столике.
В кухне холодильник, печь и ещё один стол, а в спальне ещё один шкаф, кровать и лампа.
Text 2:
Это мой друг. Друг в машине.
Это моя подруга. Подруга в самолёте.
Это молоко. Молоко в холодильнике.
Это рыба. Рыба в реке.
Это волк. Волк в лесу.
Это книга. Книга о космосе.

Тут means here and там means there. One more way to say here is здесь.
ещё одна mean one more. Here ещё means more but the word can mean still in time context.
находиться means located. You can see in the text that it can be ommited like for example
in В гостиные стол. We will talk about verbs in the next lesson. For now just notice that
находиться is used when we want to say that one item is located somewhere, and when we want
to say that more than one item is located we use the word находятся. Don't concern yourself
with verbs now. We are still building vocabulary and as far grammar is concerned, focus on
Prepositional case of the nouns which is the main topic of this lesson.
There are two words used for table in the text. One is стол and the other is столик.
The other word is deminutive and means little table. Russians use deminutives a lot, both for
people and objects.
Now, let's take a look at Prepositional case. In the sentence:
На столе находятся письмо
Noun стол is in Prepositional case and is transformed to столе. Noun письмо is not transformed and
is in Nominative case. Table is the location and is used with preposition on(На) and when we talk about location and we use prepositions
we must transfom the noun to Prepositional case.
Letter in this case does not describe the location and is not used with the preposition so it's
nominative form is used.
This is better illustrated in the next text. Это книга mean here is the book. Book is used in
nominative. In the next sentence Книга о космосе, book remains in nominative, but the noun
used with proposition must change to Prepositional case. So "космос" is changed to "космосе".
In the last text you can learn sides of the world and see that Prepositional case is used here also.
So the nouns describing sides of the world must change to Prepositional caseas to indicate location.
